Pomeranians and Huskies share a number of personality traits that usually get passed on to their hybrid offspring. These include intelligence, playfulness, confidence and an affectionate and loving nature. Both breeds also tend to be on the noisy side, with huskies being talkative and Pomeranians being prone to yipping.
Pomskies have a lot of energy and need about an hour of daily exercise and play to stay fit and avoid boredom. They’re small enough that they can make good apartment dogs, provided they’re walked two or three times a day or provided ample opportunities to burn off their energy at a dog park. Otherwise, being let out to play in a fenced-in yard or engaged in a game of fetch several times throughout the day can satisfy their exercise needs.
Feeding an excellent-quality dog food throughout his lifetime is critical for the Pomsky. The puppy should be fed an age-appropriate diet approved by the dog’s breeder or veterinarian. Treats can be an important aid in training, but giving too many can cause obesity. Pomsky’s diet should consist of solid meat protein focused ingredients with complete nutrition for active dogs (not grains).Check with your vet if you have any concerns about your dog’s weight or diet. Ample amounts of clean, fresh water should be available at all times.
Prospective Pomsky owners should be prepared to brush their dog daily. With a thick double coat, the breed tends to shed a lot, so brushing consistently is important. In the summer months, a Pomsky will shed even more. So in addition to daily brushings, monthly baths or groomer visits will be needed. During the winter, the dog will shed less and won’t need to be professionally groomed as often. Examine and trim your pup’s nails every month to ensure they stay healthy.
The Pomsky is the perfect breed for someone that would really love a husky, but doesn’t have the space or doesn’t want the bigness of a husky.
When properly socialized, they do extremely well with kids of all ages. They are gentle, patient, and protective around children
In the right hands, the Pomsky is very trainable. But they are observant dogs who can tell if you’re not going to follow through.
Playing fetch is a great way to exercise your Pomsky– after all, you get to stand in one place while he does all the running!
